The Uruguayan Luis Suárez and Mexican Héctor Herrera received the affection of Atlético de Madrid in a farewell ceremony that the club organized for them at the end of the match against Sevilla (1-1).
Both footballers, who are leaving the Madrid team at the end of this season, jumped onto the pitch with their families to be received by the Atletico coaching staff and squad, who were waiting for them in a corridor.
Herrera (32 years old) arrived at Atlético in 2019 and Luis Suárez (35 years old) in 2020.
”I am very grateful for being here. It has been a dream for me. It has been a pleasure to be in this team with great players and people and with these great fans. Thank you all for your support. Come on Atleti”, said Herrera; As for him, Suárez said that he will carry Atlético “in his heart”.
“To thank all the Atlético fans one by one. The love they gave me since I arrived is impressive. I will not forget it. Thanks also to colleagues. What I had to do is return the love and for that I gave two hundred percent to a club that opened its doors to me at a difficult time. Thanks to the fans. Thanks one by one to all of them. I stay with the League that we won last yearthat unfortunately we could not enjoy it with the people in the field. I will always carry Atlético in my heart. Aúpa Atleti”, said Suárez from the center of the Wanda field, while he was applauded from the stands.
The 35-year-old Uruguayan attacker thus ends his contract with the team and has not yet given any clues about his future, but he could consider retiring.
