Attention, travelers: know what to do before and after your trip through Jorge Chávez Airport.

Latest tourism news in Peru. There are a series of steps that every traveler needs to comply with if they do not want to have any inconvenience before boarding the plane. This is part of the planning that must be done, even when we decide to travel from one moment to another or due to an emergency. What should I take into account?

You should know in advance that The Unified Union of Air Traffic Controllers of Peru (SUCTA) of Corpac began this Thursday, April 14 until April 16, a strike that has caused the closure of five airports in Peru (Cusco, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Trujillo and Tacna) and affecting thousands of people who cannot travel for Easter holidays. The situation could return to normal in the next few hours, so we recommend that you pay attention to our last News.

STEPS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT BEFORE TRAVELING

The first step is to have all your documents at hand: passportDNI, boarding ticket and another that is required to go through Migrations. Another point to take into account is the time we are going to need to get to the airport. You have to check how the traffic and access roads are. In this way you will avoid delays or put your trip at risk.

It should be noted that a government recommendation is to arrive at the airport up to 3 hours before the scheduled departure time of the flight. We are ready to fly! All the countries you can travel to without a Peruvian passport

But, what happens if even taking all the precautions we miss our flight. According to an official Indecopi publication, Peruvian travelers have rights that must be respected in relation to this issue. It also describes some indications if our air travel is cancelled.

RIGHTS OF AIR TRANSPORT USERS

We present you which are the rights of the passenger and some recommendations that you must take into account if you are going to travel by air transport.

1. When the flight is canceled or delayed due to the airline’s responsibility, the airline must inform you of the causes and what they will do to solve it. In addition, depending on how much time has elapsed, you have the right to:

– A snack and a phone call if the delay is greater than 2 hours and less than 4 hours.

– A snack, a phone call and lunch or dinner, depending on the time, if the delay is greater than 4 and less than 6 hours.

– A snack, a phone call, lunch or dinner, depending on the time, a compensation equivalent to 25% of the unfulfilled section (can be returned through kilometers or miles, coupons or credit notes) and must cover lodging expenses and transfers to and from the airport. This will be fulfilled as long as the delay is greater than 6 hours.

– If you need to spend the night due to the cancellation of the flight, the airline must refund the net value of the ticket or obtain a substitute flight for the same day. If this does not happen, they have to cover food (breakfast, lunch, dinner, depending on the time), lodging and transportation expenses.

Important: if there were delays before the cancellation, the affected travelers have the right to receive the compensations that we have mentioned in points 1, 2, 3; according to the case.

RECOMMENDATIONS

– Check if your ticket allows you to change the date or destination of your trip without fines or fare differences, as well as the date within which you can make the change.

– Reschedule your flight. This is one of the options you have, if the terms and conditions of your ticket allow it. Go to the airline counter and explain to the person in charge so you can explain what happened so they can reach an agreement and find the best solution.

– Check the situation of your luggage. It is important that you comply with this part of the process so that in this way you prevent your belongings from being lost or retained.

– If the flight you missed was on the night shift, the best option you should take is to find a place to stay. You can ask for a recommendation, since some establishments only charge you by the hour.

– Passengers of the national air transport service over 12 years of age may only board if they prove their full dose of vaccination in Peru or abroad. If they are over 18 years of age, include the booster dose.

– If the traveler does not have their complete vaccination schedule, they must present a negative molecular test with a result date of no more than 48 hours before boarding.

– You must fill the Affidavit of health and geolocation authorization within 72 hours prior to your trip. This is a mandatory requirement for you to be authorized to enter the plane.
